Sit Back, Relax, and Binge the Best Car Films Available to Stream

What sounds better than curling up and watching a car movie? That’s a rhetorical question, of course. We already know you’re with us on that one. So we’ve compiled some of the best movies here, each available on a subscription service, to save you from having to scroll endlessly through Netflix or Amazon Prime. There’s really something here for everyone, regardless of how you like to see your cars on screen.

Drive (2011) | Netflix

Starring Ryan Gosling, Drive is the story of a Hollywood stuntman who has a side job of helping criminals as a getaway driver. Featuring fast cars, high-speed chases, and shootouts, this movie will more than satisfy anyone looking for an action movie. WATCH IT HERE

Uppity: The Willy T. Ribbs Story (2020) | Netflix

“There’s no sport more exciting than racing. This is the next best thing to heaven.” Uppity is an up-close documentary into the life and career of the first African American driver ever to compete in the Indy 500. Ribbs competed in various forms of racing from Champ Car, IndyCar, NASCAR Cup, and even raced trucks in the NASCAR Truck Series. Produced by Adam Carolla, Uppity is available on Netflix. Roma (2018) | Netflix

Although Roma doesn’t revolve around cars, it features many classic ones that look even better on screen in the 2019 Oscar winner for best cinematography. Taking place in 1971, it features 1960s Dodge Darts, Chevy Impalas, and Ford Galaxie 500s, plus various Renaults, among others (including the VW Beetle pictured here), making this movie a great option for anyone looking to reminisce about some of the great cars of the era. Bullitt (1968) | Amazon Prime

Bullitt, starring Steve McQueen (who did most of his own stunt driving in the movie), is a classic that has reached legendary status in the car world for its car chase scene. Ford has since come out with several limited edition Mustang Bullitts based on the one that McQueen drives; when we get behind the wheel of our long term Bullitt, we can’t but feel at least a little like Frank Bullitt (Steve McQueen) himself. Gran Torino (2008) | Cinemax

Gran Torino, is, well, all about a man and his 1972 Ford Gran Torino. The man, played by Clint Eastwood, watches his home town of Highland Park, Michigan, change. The plot is about how he changes, and it’s not always easy to watch, but the car is at the center of the story and stunningly, timelessly beautiful. WATCH IT HERE

Dazed and Confused (1993) | Starz

Set in 1976, Dazed and Confused coming-of-age movie tells the story of a group of high schoolers absorbed in cruising culture. With the main characters riding around in cars such as the 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge. a 1973 Plymouth Duster, and a 1972 Chevrolet C10, it’s hard to watch this movie and not get absorbed in the classic American muscle cars that find their way on screen. Senna (2010) | Netflix

Senna is, of course, the story of Ayrton Senna, the late lamented Formula 1 legend. The story is told through using primary footage of Senna on the racetrack and at home, starting with his arrival in 1984 on the Formula 1 scene that he was soon to dominate. WATCH IT HERE

The Rover (2014) | Netflix

Taking place in a dystopian world, The Rover revolves around the main character’s car being stolen. As it is his last possession in a world ravaged by economic turmoil, he sets out to get his car back. And really, what could be better than a movie about someone on a journey to retake his car? Baby Driver (2017) | Amazon Prime

Baby Driver is about Baby, a young getaway driver who is the go-to for a group of bank robbers. The movie features a number of high-speed chases and impressive driving, with the movie opening with a chase in a 2006 Subaru WRX. WATCH IT NOW

Cannonball Run II (1984) | Starz

Dean Martin, Jackie Chan, Frank Sinatra, Burt Reynolds, and a monkey that kisses a police officer on a traffic stop. Of course there’s a lot more to this sequel about the greatest outlaw road race, but if you’re looking for a giggle-packed comedy routine, park yourself in front of this one. WATCH IT NOW

Ford v Ferrari (2019) | HBO

The battle between Ford and Ferrari lives on in this emotional film featuring actors Matt Damon as famed racing constructor Carroll Shelby and Christian Bale playing racing driver Ken Miles. It’s two hours and 32 minutes long, but the strong human elements in this film make the investment worth it, with a few racing scenes exaggerated to add even more dramatic flair. WATCH IT NOW
