Carbon-Fiber Ferrari 250 GT Replica Greenlit for Production

  • A U.K. company called GTO Engineering is planning to build a modernized version of a Ferrari 250 GT.
  • The car will be built around a carbon-fiber body shell and use a V-12 engine.
  • Expect a price well north of $1 million.

UPDATE 2/24/2021: GTO Engineering says interest has been high enough to see Project Moderna greenlit to make production. The company confirms that the finished car will weigh under 2200 pounds and have both a naturally aspirated V-12 engine and a manual gearbox, and that the finished version will use both carbon and aluminum bodywork. GTO has also released more renderings of both the car’s exterior and of the magnificent quad-cam V-12 that will power it.

Tesla Briefly Halted Model 3 Production in CA over Parts Shortage

    • Tesla halted the Model 3 production line at the Fremont factory for two days due to parts shortages.
    • Other automakers have been feeling the pinch of a semiconductor shortage that’s caused production delays.
    • Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared information about the shutdown via Twitter but did not elaborate on what parts may have caused the issue.

Tesla isn’t immune to supply-chain issues. On Twitter, CEO Elon Musk announced that the Model 3 line at the Fremont, California, facility had been shut down for two days, Monday and Tuesday of this week, and had restarted production on Wednesday, February 24. The reason for the shutdown, according to Musk, was “parts shortages.”

Aptera EV Trike Gets Big Bucks, Inches Closer to Production

      • Aptera, the startup aiming to make a three-wheeled electric vehicle, just got $4 million in funding.

Electric-trike maker Aptera finally has what it needs to really get going: money. Last week the company announced it had closed on $4 million in Series A funding. “Aptera’s continued momentum has now garnered it over 7000 vehicle reservations in just over two months, totaling a quarter-billion in orders,” the company’s news section read.

It goes on to say Aptera has moved into a new production design facility in the tony Sorrento Valley area of San Diego, just east of La Jolla. (Aside: Dr. Seuss lived in La Jolla and would probably have approved of the Aptera’s shape.)

The shape, like everything on the vehicle, is squeezed for efficiency. It has
