a Raptor, a Raptor R, and Cadillac Blackwings

If negotiations between Apple and Hyundai-Kia bear fruit, there could be an autonomous Apple-designed, Kia-assembled car (or maybe more of a pod) on the roads in 2024. The two sides have been flirting since early January and are reportedly closing in on an agreement. If they manage to make a deal it’ll represent the culmination of a five-year effort by thousands of Apple employees to get into the mobility game.

This Week in Sheetmetal

It was a wonderful week for reveals, starting off with the long-awaited launches of Cadillac’s CT5-V and CT4-V Blackwing sedans. The former will have a 668-hp V-8, the latter a 472-hp twin-turbo V-6, and both will be available with six-speed manual transmissions. It’s as if Cadillac made them just for us.

Hyundai Staria Has Major Space Van Vibes

  • This is the Hyundai Staria minivan. It’s going into production, but not for the U.S.
  • It comes in configurations seating two, seven, nine, or 11, and on the nine-seater, the second-row seats can swivel to face the rear.
  • The Staria will be fully revealed later this year, and we wish it was coming here.

Hyundai is clearly taking bold strides toward wacky, futuristic looks with its designs. Look at its new electric vehicle, the Ioniq 5, for example, or the edgy new Elantra sedan and Tucson crossover. The latest statement from the Korean automaker is the new Staria minivan, which, unfortunately, in all its cuteness and roominess, won’t be coming to the States. And yes, it’s actually going into production.

If you’re thinking that this new minivan has major spaceship vibes, your mind’s in the right place. Hyundai says it wanted it to look like one. The van’s side profile

2022 Land Rover Defender Blessed with a 518-HP Supercharged V-8

    • The 2022 Land Rover Defender V8 is out this summer, and it comes with a 518-hp supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 engine.
    • The V-8 engine will be available in both two-door Defender 90 and four-door Defender 110 models, and with it, the two-door will reach 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, Land Rover says.
    • Defender V8s have a specially tuned suspension, quad exhaust tips, 22-inch wheels with blue front calipers, and an Alcantara steering wheel with chrome paddle shifters.

We’re in a seemingly golden age of powerful off-road vehicles. There’s a 702-hp Hellcat-powered Ram 1500 TRX. Ford is debuting a higher-performance F-150 Raptor R next year that’s expected to have more than 700 horsepower. The Jeep Wrangler now has a 470-hp V-8-powered Rubicon 392 model. And the Hummer is back as a 1000-hp off-road-focused electric pickup on 35-inch tires. It’s only getting better, because the Land Rover Defender, now in its third model

Why General Motors’ New Commercial EV Brand Will Be a Headache for Ford — and a Dire Threat for Start-Ups

General Motors (NYSE:GM) said that it is launching a new electric commercial-vehicle business, called BrightDrop, that will provide a complete set of software-connected electric vehicles (EVs) to customers. And it has already landed FedEx (NYSE:FDX) as its first big customer.

While tiny EV start-ups have captured the attention of auto investors in recent months, GM’s news is a big reminder that the old automakers can play this game, too. And some, like GM, are positioning themselves to be leaders as the world transitions to electric vehicles.

BrightDrop is just one piece of GM’s emerging EV plan, but it could be a big one in time. Here’s what we know.

2022 Renault Duster Oroch Rendered With Contemporary Design Cues

The cargo area isn’t going to impress you either at 1.35 meters or 4.4 feet in length and a payload rating of 680 kilograms or 1,499 pounds. For reference, the Ford Ranger offers a 5-foot (1.52-meter) bed for the SuperCrew body style and up to 1,860 pounds (843.6 kilograms) of payload.

Be that as it may, the Duster Oroch doesn’t feature a ladder-frame chassis or a forced-fed engine with low-end torque. Renault has developed it with cost-sensitive customers in mind, which is why the most Spartan configuration is available to order from 82,490 reais or $15,360 at current exchange rates. The mid-sized Ranger in XL trim with the Single Cab, by comparison, kicks off at 154,090 reais or roughly $28,690 in the Brazilian market.

The biggest problem of the Duster Oroch, however, is the antiquated styling based on the previous generation of the Duster crossover. Fret not, however, because 2022

Shelby GT500 Races the TFL Ram TRX, Result Is Not What You Would Expect

They’ve brought a very serious contender for the Ram TRX. We’re looking at a Shelby GT500. Yes, a supercharged, 5.2-liter V8-powered muscle car. The Shelby GT500 is an amazing machine in every sense, and it brings 760 horsepower to the table and a maximum torque of 625 lb-ft (847 Nm). A dual-clutch, 7-speed automatic gearbox is in place, but given the cold weather outside, the GT500 is facing a huge challenge, due to it having rear-wheel-drive.

In the other corner, the Ram TRX, albeit some 2100 lbs (952 kg) heavier than the GT500, has the benefit of using an all-wheel-drive setup. The TRX’s engine is also slightly larger, at 6.2-liters. So, even though the Ram TRX only has 702 horsepower, it does come with more torque – 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) to be more specific. If this was a race down the drag strip, on the quarter-mile (402 m),
